Northern Arizona Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jack Murphy has announced the hiring of Jason Sanchez, as his third assistant coach. Sanchez replaces Ben Tucker, who served for one year with the Lumberjacks.
“Jason has been a valuable member of our staff during the past two years and has proven himself time and again with whatever is asked of him,” said Murphy. “He has a wonderful mind for the game of basketball, great relationships with our current student-athletes and a drive for improvement that brings even more fuel to our program. I cannot begin to say how excited we are that Jason will be staying with us in a full-time capacity.”
Sanchez’s appointment with NAU will be his first full-time assistant coaching position at a Division I school. He spent the previous two years as the recruiting coordinator/graduate assistant with the Lumberjacks. During that time,
Sanchez was responsible for recruiting, player development, film breakdown, summer camps, and academics.
Prior to NAU, Sanchez was an assistant at the Doral Academy for one year. He helped the Firebirds advance to the regional semifinals.
Sanchez coached at Miami Christian High School for three years, the final season as the head coach. While there, the Victors won 20 games his final year and advanced to the regional semifinals.
Sanchez played at Miami-Dade under current NAU coaches Matt Dunn and Wes Pifer. He also competed at San Diego City College before finishing his career at the University of Mobile.
Sanchez has worked at the LeBron James Nike Skills Camp in Miami and the Dwayne Wade Fantasy Camp. He also served as the commissioner of the Mario Chalmers Clinic, Kenyon Martin Camp, and the CBF Sports Camp.
Sanchez earned a degree in physical education from Florida International in 2013, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona in 2017.
