Texas A&M International Names Jeremy Espinoza Assistant Basketball Coach

The Texas A&M International University Men’s Basketball program announced the hiring of Jeremy Espinoza on Thursday.

Espinoza begins his role at TAMIU after two years as the Graduate Assistant for Newman University.

The Uvalde, Texas native is no stranger to the Heartland Conference as he both played and coached at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas. Espinoza spent two years with the Jets as a player before graduating in 2015. On the court, Espinoza picked up two All-Heartland Conference Honorable Mention honors. Espinoza played in 52 games as a Jet, starting 51 of them. In two season, Espinoza had a career average of 14.25 points per game.

After graduating from Newman, Espinoza chose to continue his education and jumpstart his career in the same setting. Espinoza joined the Jets coaching staff as a Graduate Assistant in 2016 while studying Organizational Leadership. In his two years a GA with Newman, the Jets made two Heartland Conference tournament appearances.

Espinoza graduated with his masters degree in Organizational Leadership in May of 2017.

Jeremy commented on joining the Dustdevils staff, “TAMIU gives me a great opportunity to continue coaching. The people at TAMIU have been great to me. Coach Weakley is a great coach and I look forward to learning from him. This is a great opportunity for me and I am looking forward to furthering my coaching career.”

Head Coach Bryan Weakley commented, “Jeremy is a great addition to our staff.  We are very excited to have him here.  He brings 4 years of experience in the Heartland Conference and in NCAA D2 to our program.  He was highly recommended by legendary Newman University coach Mark Potter so I know he will make us all very proud.”
