Culver-Stockton College athletic director Pat Atwell announced the hiring of Aaron Hill as the 24th coach in the 106-year history of Culver-Stockton men’s basketball.
Hill arrives in Canton after spending the last four seasons at East Central University in Ada, Okla. Hill served as assistant coach at ECU from 2014-17 before being promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2017-18 campaign. While at ECU, Hill helped the Tigers earn two Great American Conference (GAC) regular season titles, the 2017 GAC Tournament championship and the team’s first trip to the NCAA Central Regional.
“We are pleased to announce the hiring of Aaron,” said Atwell. “He is a terrific young coach and will be a great ambassador and leader for our basketball program. We look forward to having him build a championship program on the court and in the classroom.”
Hill is the son of former Culver-Stockton men’s coach Steve Hill who coached the Wildcats from 1990-2004, compiling a 187-250 overall record and leading C-SC to its only Heart of America Athletic Conference championship in 1991.
Prior to East Central, Hill spent two seasons at Eastern Arizona College as an assistant coach. While with the Gila Monsters, he helped the team to 39 victories in two seasons, including multiple wins over nationally-ranked teams in the NJCAA. The program produced five all-conference and three all-region players as well as a conference freshman and player of the year and a two-time all-American.
A two-time Missouri All-State and Mr. Basketball Finalist, Hill also coached at the high school level as an assistant at Quincy (Ill.) High School from 2010-12.
A 2008 graduate of Rockhurst University, Hill ended his time with the Hawks at No. 5 on the school’s career scoring list. The two-time All-American and Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year also set school records for 3-point field goals made in a season and career. Hill was also a two-time GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned Capital One Academic All-American honors.
After college, Hill moved on to play professionally in Australia for the Ringwood Hawks for one season. In 2011 he was selected as a Big V League All-Star and was among the league leaders in scoring, 3-point shooting and steals.
A native of Canton, Mo, Hill earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2008 and a master’s degree in business administration from Rockhurst in 2010. Hill and his wife, the former Andrea Knapp, have one son, Noah.
