HOT: Johnny Jones to be named Head Basketball Coach at Texas Southern

Former LSU and North Texas head coach Johnny Jones will be named as the new coach at Texas Southern. He will replace Mike Davis who departed for Detroit earlier this month. Mark Berman of Fox 26 in Houston was the first to report this. He tweeted:

Former LSU and North Texas Coach Johnny Jones, currently associate head coach at Nevada (), has agreed to become the new coach: “I’m really excited about it. This is a terrific opportunity with a great university in a great city.”

He followed that tweet up with this one:

Former LSU & North Texas Coach Johnny Jones, assoc head coach at Nevada (), has agreed to become the new coach: “I plan to bring excitement w/ our style of play.We hope to bring in high profile players that our fan base will enjoy watching”

Jones was hired as the associate head coach at Nevada prior to the 2017-18 season. Before that, he was the head coach at LSU (2012-2017/90-72 ), North Texas (2001-2012/190-146 ), and Memphis (1999-2000/15-16).
