Medaille College Director of Athletics Susan Roarke announced the hiring of Keith Hack as the next Head Coach for the Medaille College Men’s Basketball team.
“Keith Hack has demonstrated as a former player at Medaille and as a
coach that he is a person of character and has a track record of proven
recruiting success,” Roarke said. “His credentials as a coach and
leader make him the ideal candidate to lead the Mavericks Men’s
Basketball Program. We are so excited to welcome Keith and his family
back to the Mavericks community.”
Hack joins Medaille from Ursinus College. Hack had been on staff for the Bears since 2014 and was instrumental in helping the team improve its win total each year. He also coached three All-Centennial Conference selections along with one 1,000 point scorer.
Prior to Ursinus, he was an assistant at SUNY New Paltz. While at New Paltz, he helped the team to achieve their highest conference win total in fourteen years during the 2013-2014 season. He coached three All-SUNYAC Conference Selections and two 1,000 point scorers.
Hack also had a brief stop at Niagara County Community College, working as an assistant coach for two years under Bill Beilein and helping the team to 19-win and 20-win seasons, along with a trip to the NJCAA Tournament.
When asked about how he felt about receiving the job as head coach, his “initial reaction was one of excitement. It is special to have my first job as a head coach at my alma mater,” Hack said.
Hack played at Medaille from the 2006 season until the end of the 2010 season. He had a remarkable playing career, helping the team to back-to-back AMCC Championships in his junior and senior seasons. Hack remains top ten in fourteen different categories in all-time career statistics including points, scoring average, field goals made, free throws made, and rebounds.
When asked to reflect back, “Medaille was a huge part of my life and helped shape me into who I am today and I cannot be more excited to get back to Western New York and work with the current student-athletes,” Hack said.
Hack was asked how a team coached by him is expected to look, he stated “I think when people come to watch the team this year and in the future, they can expect a tough, gritty, fundamentally sound team. We are going to push tempo and always try to attack and never play on our heels. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but we are going to focus on getting 1% better every day.”
Hack is excited and ready to begin this season at Medaille College. “Medaille was a huge part of my life and helped shape me into who I am today and I cannot be more excited to get to work.”
Hack’s official start date is Tuesday.
