Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced the appointment of Matt Williams as assistant men’s basketball coach effective October 5.
Williams comes to W&L from Hampden-Sydney, where he served as an assistant coach last season. The Tigers finished 10th in the ODAC last year, and Williams was involved in all the day-to-day operations of the team, including recruiting potential student-athletes, on-court coaching during games and practices and leading film sessions in preparation for upcoming contests.
Before heading to Hampden-Sydney, Williams was an assistant coach at Millsaps during the 2016-17 season. With the Majors, he was the recruiting and video coordinator. He oversaw player development, travel and also assisted in recruiting and preparing scouting reports.
Williams is a 2016 graduate of Davidson College with a bachelor of science in psychology. He was a two-year member of the men’s basketball team for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. The Wildcats claimed the Atlantic 10 regular season championship in 2015, and the team won at least 20 games both seasons.
