Connecticut College Director of Athletics Fran Shields has announced the resignation of head men’s basketball coach Tom Satran and a change in leadership.

A 1994 graduate of the institution, Satran was beginning his 17th season as the head coach of the program. He started his professional career at the College as an assistant under Glen Miller, and his tireless recruiting efforts contributed to building two of the most successful teams in program history. The 1997-98 team earned its first NCAA Tournament appearance, and a year later, the program advanced to the NCAA Final Four while earning a No. 1 national ranking.

Satran was also active in the local community. He helped raise funds for Coaches vs. Cancer through the team’s tip-off classic tournament, which was co-hosted with Coast Guard, and he was involved with the Gemma E. Moran Food Bank, Safe Futures, and Team IMPACT.

“Tom was a loyal department member for 17 years and impacted the lives of countless student-athletes,” said Shields. “We wish him the best as he pursues other opportunities.”

Dan Lee, who spent the last four years as an assistant at Oneonta State, will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the 2018-19 men’s basketball season. A search for a permanent coach will take place next semester.
