Daily Dirt – 3/9/20

A few quick things to kick off what will be a busy week…

  • Two jobs that opened in the past 24 hours already have search firms in place. Fogler Consulting has the Loyola Marymount search, and Todd Turner’s Collegiate Sports Associates is on board at James Madison.
  • Last week, I mentioned Central Michigan assistant Chris Tifft and Illinois staffer Geoff Alexander as names at Western Illinois. The list is continuing to grow (update soon), but one name that should not be on it is Minnesota State head coach Matt Margenthaler. I’ve heard that the WIU alum is currently not involved, and does not plan to be.
  • Western Michigan head coach Steve Hawkins’ contract expires at the end of May. It sounds like he has begun talks on a new deal, and should be ok there. The long-time Broncos head coach is 291-261 in his 17 years as the head coach at the school, and all indications are pointing to a new contract. More on this one as I hear it.

  • I have heard that D2 Texas A&M International is down to three candidates. Two of them are current assistants in TAMIU’s league – the Lone Star Conference. More on this shortly.
  • It sounds like the search at D3 Rhodes College is moving quickly. I have heard that a bunch of candidates have received rejection letters over the past few days. The not so secret name that everyone is mentioning here is High Point Director of Player Development Zo Goodson. He has been with Tubby Smith at Memphis, Kentucky, Texas Tech, and Minnesota. May be at least 1 current D3 head coach involved as well.
