Multiple sources have confirmed to me that Northeastern State University (OK) head coach Mark Downey will become the next head basketball coach at Arkansas Tech.
Downey had previously served as the head coach at Tech from 2006-10 where he went 77-43 (.642). During his final season with the Wonder Boys, his squad went 30-2, were ranked #1 in the nation for eight weeks, and Downey was tabbed as the 2010 NABC South Region Coach of the Year
The coaching veteran has also served as the head coach at West Alabama (2013-14), Charleston (WVa) (2010-13), and Independence CC (1999-01) He also spent time as a DI assistant at Fort Wayne, Bowling Green, New Orleans, and Marshall.
Downey will replace Chad Kline, who departed back in early March after serving as the head coach at Arkansas Tech since 2014.
An official announcement is expected later this week.
