News and notes from around the college basketball coaching world…

  • Will Wade will not be on the sidelines today when LSU takes on Sam Houston State because of COVID-19 and contact tracing issues. Assistant Coach Bill Armstrong will lead the Tigers in Wade’s absence. More HERE.

  • Alabama’s Nate Oats issued an apology to Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, after questioning his motivation for canceling the rest of the Blue Devils non-conference schedule last week. “I want to publicly apologize to Coach K for what I said,” Oats said after Alabama’s 64-56 loss to Clemson. “I assigned a motive to him and a decision made for his team, which I shouldn’t have done. I actually felt terrible about it. After I got out of the press conference, I reached out to him. He was gracious enough to return my call. We had a good talk on the phone. I have the utmost respect for him as a coach.” More HERE.

  • Good article HERE from the Baltimore Sun on how some of the DMV area coaches are dealing with coaching through the pandemic. From Navy head coach Ed DeChellis, “We get tested quite often, but it’s not good for me and it’s not good for anybody to contract this thing. So yeah, I do have concerns. And I think the cases might be higher now than they were in March when we canceled the NCAA tournament. So it wasn’t healthy to do it then, but it is healthy to do it now? It’s just mixed signals.”

  • Miami head coach Jim Larranaga is not happy about the NCAA’s impending vote on immediate eligibility for transfers. “Why would you make a decision like this in the middle of December?” If you are going to make changes, why aren’t you making them before the season starts?” The The NCAA Division I Council is expected to vote on the proposal Wednesday. More HERE.

  • Congrats to Notre Dame and head coach Mike Brey, as the Irish recorded their first win in program history against Kentucky when playing in Rupp Arena, defeating the Wildcats 64-63 on Saturday afternoon. More HERE.

  • D2 Lincoln Memorial University (TN) head coach Josh Schertz led the #2 Railsplitters their 35th consecutive win with a dominant 93-68 victory over #11 Alabama Huntsville yesterday. The victory extend the nation’s longest winning streak among all levels of college basketball. More HERE.
