According to multiple reports, including one from Horns 247, the University of Texas is set to hire Texas Tech’s Chris Beard as their new head basketball coach. Beard is a UT alum who worked for Tom Penders and the Longhorns as a student back in the 1990’s.
In his five years at Texas Tech, Beard has gone 112-55 (.671). He led the Red Raiders to the 2019 National Championship game, and captured the Big 12 and AP National Coach of the Year awards along the way. Beard also spent ten years on the TTU staff, working for both Bob and Pat Knight.
In addition to his time at Texas Tech, Beard has also been the head coach at Little Rock (30-5 in 1 season), D3 McMurry, and D2 Angelo State. His over all record as a collegiate head coach is 208–84 (.712).
