Corin ‘Tiny’ Adams has joined the Loyola University Maryland men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach, Greyhounds Head Coach Tavaras Hardy announced today.
Adams, who most recently served on the Morgan State University men’s basketball staff, will be the one of two female assistant coaches at the NCAA Division I level for the 2020-2021 season, joining the University of Maine’s Edniesha Curry. She is the sixth woman in Division I history to serve as an assistant coach, following in the path initially blazed by Bernadette Mattox when she was an assistant for Rick Pitino at the University of Kentucky from 1990-1994.
“I am beyond thrilled to welcome Corin ‘Tiny’ Adams to the Loyola Basketball family,” Hardy said. “Tiny is incredibly passionate about developing future leaders, on and off the court. She knows what it takes to become a great player, her relationship management and interpersonal skills are off the charts, and she’s extremely driven. Tiny is the perfect fit for our coaching staff.”
In 2019-2020, Adams was Morgan State’s video coordinator and helped Head Coach Kevin Broadus’ first Bears team finish 9-7 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and 15-16 overall.
The Brooklyn, New York, native is no stranger to North Baltimore as she received both her bachelor and master’s degrees from Morgan State where she was a standout player before beginning her professional career.
“Words cannot express how grateful and fortunate I am to join the Loyola University Maryland family,” Adams said. “This has been my dream job for some time now, so having Coach Hardy and the rest of the administration believe in my abilities as a coach means more than they’ll ever know/ I look forward to helping impact a program with extraordinary leadership to help produce championship basketball.”
Adams graduated from the Cold Spring Lane school in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in physical education, and she received her master’s in journalism in 2019, earning honors and Dean’s List recognition throughout both programs.
On the basketball court, she was a star for the Bears and still stands as the schools’ all-time leader – for either women’s or men’s players – in points (2,058), assists (455) and steals (404). This month, she will be inducted to the Varsity “M” Club, Morgan State’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
Adams was the 2010 MEAC Player of the Year, and she was a three-time All-MEAC First Team honoree from 2008-2010. She earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2008 and was a member of the MEAC All-Rookie and All-Tournament teams in 2007. Despite standing just 5-foot-5, Adams also is 13th all-time at Morgan State in rebounds, grabbing 564 in her time with the Bears. She recorded the program’s first triple-double, logging 11 points, 10 assist and 11 steals in a November 21, 2007, game against North Carolina Central University.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Adams headed abroad where she would continue her career at the professional level with stops in Portugal, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Sweden, Czech Republic, Chile, Switzerland, Poland, Romania, Greece and Puerto Rico.
Adams has also been highly involved in the community, both in her native Brooklyn and her current hometown of Baltimore.
In 2014, Adams co-founded T3 Sports, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to helping girls and young women overcome obstacles that prevent optimal physical and psychological developments in their community. Through T3, Adams has sponsored free basketball camps and seminars to empower young women and girls.
After helping to launch T3, Adams started her own apparel brand, TA9, and through that experience she authored a book about her journey titled Tiny Setbacks, Major Comebacks: From Brooklyn To Europe. The autobiography details many of the obstacles she faced during her career while also providing a blueprint for student-athletes, aspiring professional basketball players and others chasing a dream.
This year, she founded a non-profit in Baltimore, Leader Breeders, an organization that’s purpose and is to help Baltimore City’s youth discover and develop leadership qualities, hone their academic, athletic and entrepreneurial talents and to have somewhere safe to do so.
In 2017, she became a certified basketball official for IAABO Board 290 and the CBOO, officiating high school, AAU and women’s junior college basketball games. She also was a volunteer assistant coach from 2016-2018 for the boys’ basketball team at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, another Cold Spring Lane neighbor of Loyola.
While playing in Europe, Adams was a scout for Two Points Agency, a group based out of Cremona, Italy, where she assisted in scouting, evaluating and recruiting men’s and women’s collegiate talent worldwide while negotiating their professional contracts.
