Aguirre added to St. Cloud State Basketball Staff

St. Cloud State University head men’s basketball coach Quincy Henderson has announced the addition of Omar Aguirre to his coaching staff. Aguirre will serve as an assistant coach for the Huskies after spending two seasons as a student assistant at West Texas A&M working under Coach Henderson.

“I am incredibly excited to be a part of the Huskies Men’s Basketball Program and the St. Cloud Community,” said Aguirre, “I am looking forward to working with Coach Henderson again along with Coach O’Brien and Coach Wichers.”

“Omar is a great addition to our program. He was part of some very successful teams at West Texas A&M,” commented Henderson, “He brings passion, energy, and a genuine desire to improve the lives of the student-athletes he mentors. His positivity is infectious and his desire to continually improve processes is a driver for his success. I am overjoyed to work with Big O again, and look forward to watching him make his mark on the Husky program moving forward.”

Aguirre brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to St. Cloud State thanks to his background in coaching and playing career. A 2015 graduate of Denver City High School in West Texas, Aguirre earned Second-Team All-District Honors his junior year and First Team All-District Honors as a senior.

Aguirre attended West Texas A&M for his undergraduate degree where he became involved with the men’s basketball program as a student assistant. While there, he helped guide the Buffaloes to win the Lone Star Conference regular season and conference tournament championships in 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. In addition, West Texas A&M earned the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championship, reaching the Final Four during the 2017-18 season and the Elite Eight in the 2018-19 season.

“During my time at West Texas A&M, I was able to work for some unbelievable coaches,” Aguirre stated, “Being around the coaching staff daily was as good an education in basketball that I could ever ask for and I am incredibly grateful for my time at West Texas A&M.”

A native of Denver City, West Texas, Aguirre graduated from West Texas A&M with his undergraduate degree in 2019.
