Alfred U hires Brown as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

A familiar face rejoins the Alfred University men’s basketball program as head coach Erich Kaempffe announces the hire of Sage Brown ’19 as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2021-22 season. Brown will assist Kaempffe and assistant coach Adam Beam with recruiting, player development, practice planning, scouting, and video editing.

Brown was a four-year member of the men’s basketball team from 2015 through 2019 and a team co-captain in his final season. Brown, a wing player, played in 100 career games for the Saxons. He finished his career with 927 points, 647 rebounds, 201 assists, and 139 steals. He is 25th in program history in scoring and 12th in rebounds. A two-time All-Empire 8 selection, Brown was named Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year as a senior in the 2018-19 season. That season, Brown and his fellow senior classmates led a young Saxon group to a sterling 24-5 record, a program-best 14-2 in Empire 8 play, and the program’s first-ever Empire 8 Tournament title and fifth appearance in the NCAA Division III men’s basketball tournament, where the Saxons advanced to the second round. Brown graduated with a bachelor’s degree in childhood psychology in May 2019 and is currently in graduate school at AU.

Brown spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant with the men’s and women’s track and field programs, working with the Saxon field athletes.
