Drew Blair has been named assistant men’s basketball coach at Northern Michigan University, head coach Keil Ganz announced.
“I could not be more excited to add Drew to the Wildcat family,” said Ganz. “Another Wisconsin guy is coming to NMU. I’ve known Drew for a few years and even coached against him a few years ago. Drew brings a wealth of knowledge through his own success as a player that our players will really benefit from. As a coach, he was a big part of the NCAA Tournament run that Minnesota Duluth had this year, and I am really excited to work with him.”
Blair arrives in Marquette after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota Duluth during the 2025-26 season, where he played a key role in player development, scouting, and in-game adjustments. He helped guide the Bulldogs to the 2026 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Sweet 16.
“I am extremely excited to join the Northern Michigan basketball program and athletic department,” Blair said. “I have been able to see the rise and success of the program over recent years and can’t wait to be a part of sustaining the excellence and culture displayed in this program, while striving to take it to new heights alongside Coach Ganz. Go Cats!”
Prior to his time on the Duluth bench, Blair gained professional experience with the Milwaukee Bucks organization as a video coordinator/player development assistant from September 2024 through May 2025. In that role, he contributed to advanced scouting preparation, film breakdown, and on-court skill development, working with NBA-level systems and technology.
A standout player at Minnesota Duluth from 2019-24, Blair brings an accomplished playing résumé to Northern. A four-time team captain, he finished his career as the program’s all-time leader in scoring (2,772 points), field goals made (926), three-point field goals made (344), and free throws made (576). He earned five All-NSIC selections, was named a 2024 NABC All-American, and helped lead the Bulldogs to the 2023 Central Region title and an Elite Eight appearance.
Blair’s experience also includes recruiting, where he assisted in securing multiple top-20 prospects in the Midwest, along with extensive work in film analysis using platforms such as Sportscode and Synergy.
A native of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Blair graduated from Minnesota Duluth in 2024 with a degree in Business Marketing. He was also active in the university’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and athletics diversity, equity, and inclusion council, while volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club of Duluth.
