Bovaird Extended at Chaminade

Chaminade University director of athletics Bill Villa has announced a three-year contract extension for men’s basketball head coach Eric Bovaird that will take him through April 2023.

“Chaminade has been, and continues to be, a great place for me and my family,” Bovaird said. “I’m thankful to have this incredible job and am excited about the future here at Chaminade.

“President Lynn Babington and Bill Villa are great leaders here at Chaminade and I am pleased to continue on this path with them.”

Bovaird, who had one year remaining on his current contract, is nearing the completion of his eighth season as head coach and has compiled a record of 125-94 including a 122-74 mark against Division II opponents. He is the second-winningest coach in program history, trailing only the legendary Merv Lopes.

Bovaird has also guided the Silverswords to five Pacific West Conference Tournament berths and two appearances in the NCAA West Regional. His current squad has 21 wins, tying the program’s Division II era mark, has been in the national rankings for much of the year and is making a strong case for a third NCAA Tournament berth with a No. 5 regional ranking.

“Eric has the perfect temperament to match the philosophy and mission of our university and is a perfect fit for us,” Villa said. “As our head coach, he has the experience, knowledge and communication skills coupled with an enthusiastic ‘can-do’ attitude that touches every one of his players and they play hard for him and their teammates every night.

“I’m excited for our continued journey with Eric and the goals we will accomplish during that time.”
