BREAKING: Brooks Thompson Relieved of Duties at UTSA

UTSA Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey announced Thursday that head men’s basketball coach Brooks Thompson has been relieved of his duties effective immediately.

“I met with Brooks earlier today and after evaluating all areas of the program, I have decided that it is time to make a change in leadership,” Hickey said. “I want to thank Brooks and his staff for all their contributions to the university over the years.”

The second-longest tenured head coach in program history, Thompson compiled a 133-178 record in his 10 seasons, including a 5-27 mark this year. He led the Roadrunners to the 2011 Southland Conference Tournament title and the school’s first NCAA Tournament victory in any sport when the Roadrunners beat Alabama State in the 2011 First Four.

Under his watch, eight Roadrunners earned all-conference honors and three were named league freshman of the year. His players combined to collect nine conference all-academic certificates, including three Southland Student-Athletes of the Year.

UTSA will begin a national search for a new head coach immediately.
