BREAKING: Ohio State Assistant Jeff Boals Named Head Basketball Coach at Stony Brook

Stony Brook athletic director Shawn Heilbron confirmed to Newsday that Ohio State assistant coach Jeff Boals will be the Seawolves new head basketball coach.  HoopDirt.com reported yesterday that Villanova assistant coach Baker Dunleavy turned down the job after his visit on Wednesday.  Boals was the next man up – he interviewed on campus Thursday, and accepted the position on Friday morning.  Former SBU head coach Jay Young, and Providence assistant coach Jeff Battle were also candidates here.

Boals had been at Ohio State since 2009.  He has also worked at Akron and Robert Morris.  He is expected to meet with the team on Sunday and will be formally introduced at a Monday news conference on campus.

More on this when it becomes official.
