BREAKING: Paul Weir to be named Head Coach at New Mexico State

CBSSports.com was the first to report today that New Mexico State will promote associate head coach Paul Weir to replace Marvin Menzies as the Aggies head basketball coach.  Weir, who will be entering his tenth season at the school, will take over for his former boss who became the head coach at UNLV earlier this month.

During his time at New Mexico State, Weir has been part of a staff that has won five WAC Tournament Championships (2010, 2012-2015) and has had five subsequent NCAA Tournament appearances. The Aggies have collected three WAC Championships during Weir’s tenure. The Aggies have won back-to-back WAC regular season titles in 2015 and 2016 after collecting their first WAC regular season title in 2008.

Prior to New Mexico State, Weir was the director of basketball operations at the University of Iowa for head coach Steve Alford.

The official announcement is expected shortly.
