Wake Forest has fired head basketball coach Danny Manning. This was first reported by Jeff Goodman of stadium.com, earlier this morning. The firing comes just weeks after Manning told the Winston-Salem Journal that he expected to return next season.
In his six seasons as the Deamon Deacons head coach, Manning has gone 78-111 (30-80 ACC, including a 13-18 (6-14) mark this past season. Wake has not finished higher than 10th in the ACC during Manning’s tenure.
Manning’s current contract runs through the 2024-25 season, and reportedly has a large buyout attached to it.
This is the first high major coaching change this off season. The full list of up-to-date coaching changes can be found here.
