Brian McMahon has been appointed as an assistant coach of the men’s basketball team, it was announced by Director of Athletics & Recreation Heather MacCulloch.

“We are delighted to have Brian back on campus in the role of an assistant coach for the Men’s Basketball team.” said MacCulloch. “His experience overseas will certainly add a dynamic to the current coaching tactics for our student-athletes, which can only have a positive impact for our team moving forward.”

Brian is no stranger to Baruch as he played four years (2010-11 to 2014-15) for the Bearcats and is 13th all-time on the team charts with 102 career games played. He won a CUNYAC Championship during his senior season and played in the NCAA Tournament.

“I am happy to welcome Brian back to Baruch as he continues his young coaching career,” said Alesi. “He is someone who our players will learn a great deal from.  He was a tremendous player and a great locker room influence. I anticipate a seamless transition as a coach.”

Upon graduation, Brian worked as a digital content producer for MSG Varsity Network and a freelance reporter for The Manhattan Times and Bronx Free Press.

The six-foot-eight former Baruch center later traveled to China and spent one year (2016-17) as a youth basketball coach with Five Star Sports. While in China, he also coached clinics with the Nike Rise Academy, which included an event with Kevin Durant.

Brian graduated from Baruch in 2015 with a degree in journalism.
