The Southeastern men’s basketball team added Jordan Brooks as assistant coach, first-year SLU head basketball coach David Kiefer announced.
Brooks’ hiring is pending approval from the University of Louisiana System’s Board of Supervisors.
The Largo, Maryland native comes to Southeastern after coaching the previous two seasons at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Brooks helped guide Howard to the MEAC Conference Tournament semifinals last year finishing the season at 17-17. Brooks was also selected to the Top 30 NABC top upcoming coaches following the season.
Prior to Howard, Brooks coached and recruited at the 14U, 15U, and 16U grassroot levels while developing several NCAA Division I student-athletes from top programs in the Washington D.C. area which include DC Assault, Team Takeover, Team Durant, and Team St8ment.
“I’m just extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with coach Kiefer,” said Brooks. “He has been at every level from junior college to Division I. The fact that he has worked his way up the way he has and earned this makes me excited to help bring as much as I can to him and the Southeastern program.”
Brooks played his collegiate career at Hampton (2007-2011), including the first three seasons under former Howard Men’s Basketball head coach Kevin Nickelberry.
In 2011, Brooks earned his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management at Hampton. A year later (2012), he received a MBA at Goldey-Beacom College, specializing in Marketing Management.
Brooks attended Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Springdale, Maryland where he earned All-MET and All-PG County First Team honors.
“Having a guy with Jordan’s resume on board will be huge for us,” said Kiefer. “I think he is going to be a huge asset to helping develop these young guys that we have. He is a tireless recruiter that I fully believe can help bring us the type of talent and character we need to stay near the top of the conference.”
Brooks joins first year assistant coaches Mark Lieberman, Patrick Schulte, Dean Baumert, Riley Conroy and volunteer assistant coach Jason Williams to complete the staff under Kiefer.
