Tacoma Community College (TCC) has named Turner Cagle as Interim Head Coach of the Titans Men’s Basketball Program, following Rachi Wortham’s departure to a coaching position at the four-year collegiate level.
Cagle, a respected figure in the South Sound basketball community, brings decades of coaching experience, a deep connection to Tacoma, and a lifelong passion for the game to this leadership role.
“Coach Cagle embodies everything we value at TCC—leadership, integrity, and a true commitment to student-athlete development,” said TCC Athletic Director Jason Prenovost. “His experience and his heart for this community make him the ideal leader to build on the foundation Coach Wortham has established.”
A Tacoma native, Cagle played at Stadium and Lincoln High Schools before earning all-league honors and moving on to Wenatchee Valley College. Although injuries ended his playing career earlier than expected, he found his calling in coaching. He began his coaching career at Wenatchee Valley and went on to work alongside legendary coach Tim Kelly at both Lincoln and Curtis High Schools. During his time at Curtis, Cagle helped lead the men’s basketball team to 13 league titles, five district championships, and a state championship in 2013.
Cagle also served as an assistant coach at TCC during a successful stretch —contributing to two Elite 8 appearances, a Final 4 finish, and an NWAC runner-up title. His experience coaching at both the high school and collegiate levels, along with his involvement on the national AAU circuit, gives him a well-rounded perspective on player development and program culture.
“Basketball has always given me structure, love, and purpose—especially during some of the most challenging times in my life,” said Cagle. “This game has shaped who I am, and coaching is my way of giving that same opportunity and support to others.”
Cagle also shared that his coaching approach is grounded in consistency, discipline, and relationships: “Outworking your opponent doesn’t require talent—it requires effort. That’s the mentality I want our players to carry, both on the court and in life.”
Former TCC Head Coach Rachi Wortham offered his strong support for Cagle as he transitions into the leadership role: “Cagle is going to do a great job at Tacoma. He’s a teacher by trade, loves the game and he’s exceptional at helping people. I’m excited to follow his journey.”
In addition to coaching, Cagle plays a leadership role at The Multicultural Child and Family Hope Center, where he helps empower and support local families, reinforcing his commitment to community service and mentorship beyond basketball.
Cagle will begin his new role immediately as he leads the Titans into the next chapter of their storied program.
