Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball head coach BJ Foster announced the hiring of Adam Ellis as the team’s new assistant coach on Friday.
Ellis comes to CSUSM after spending three seasons at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, Washington.
“I’m very excited for Adam to join the program,” Foster said. “He’s been successful at every stop along his journey and will be a great asset to the department and team.”
In 2018-19, Ellis helped the Saints reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Divison II Men’s Basketball Championship after posting an overall record of 26-6 and a 17-3 record in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).
The Saints reached the Round of 32 in Ellis’ second year at Saint Martin’s as they cruised to a 25-8 overall record and a 15-5 GNAC record.
Prior to taking over the assistant coaching gig at Saint Martin’s in 2016-17, Ellis served as the head coach at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon, for the previous four seasons. Ellis’ first head coaching position occurred at Tekoa-Oakesdale where he served for two seasons.
Ellis got his start in coaching as a student assistant at Eastern Washington where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Coaching. He then completed his master’s degree at Concordia Irvine in Coaching and Athletic Administration.
Prior to transferring to Eastern Washington, Ellis played basketball at Spokane Community College.
