George Washington Athletics Director Tanya Vogel announced that men’s head basketball coach, Chris Caputo, and women’s head basketball coach, Caroline McCombs, are both serving this season having recently inked contract extensions.
McCombs, in her third season at the helm of the program, entered the 2023-24 season with her team picked sixth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll, after advancing to the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals in both of her first two campaigns. In her first season at GW she steered a defense that set an all-time program record for fewest points allowed on average in a game (55.2 ppg), and last season her club earned the 7-seed in the A-10 and a first round bye in the conference tournament after going 18-13 overall and 9-7 in conference play.
Caputo, who led his team last season in his first year at GW to its best regular season in six years, going 16-16 (10-8 in A-10 play). GW enjoyed its most overall wins (16), most Atlantic 10 conference wins (10) and first A-10 winning record since the 2016-17 season when it advanced to the CBI. He also presided over the best statistical season for A-10 Player of the Year Candidate James Bishop, recruited and developed A-10 Rookie of the Year Maximus Edwards, and mentored Brendan Adams to being the conference’s Most Improved Player last season.
Per department policy, terms of the extensions will not be disclosed.
