Chadron State Basketball Staff Update

Kevin Paustenbach and Kyle Hunt have been hired as assistant men’s basketball coaches at D2 Chadron State College.

Coach Paustenbach is entering his first season as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Chadron State College. He brings multiple years of coaching experience at the NJCAA, NAIA and Division 1 levels. Coach Paustenbach was most recently the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at ASA College in Miami. In his first season at ASA, he recruited and developed Leonard Wilson who went on to be the 3rd all time leading scorer in ASA history and received a full scholarship to Judson University. Prior to his time at ASA College, Coach Paustenbach spent the 2020 season on staff at the University of Incarnate Word. Coach Paustenbach started his coaching career at Middle Georgia State University and helped them reach the Conference championship in his first year. He assisted in the development of Kieston Standfield, who was an All-American selection in 2017.

Coach Paustenbach received his Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management from Malone University and his Master’s degree in Sport Management from Georgia Southern University.

Kyle Hunt

Ypsilanti, Michigan native Kyle Hunt enters his first season with the Eagles assistant coach. Hunt had an unconventional path to coaching at the collegiate level. Growing up he lettered in football and baseball. After high school, he moved to Stockton, California and found his place in coaching basketball. Hunt started his own non-profit basketball organization, One Ball Basketball in 2015. This gave student-athletes an opportunity to develop as individuals on and off the court. Finding success on the AAU level, Hunt wanted more. 
 
From, in 2017-2019, he received his first high school coaching position at Weston Ranch High School located in Stockton, California. Hunt would serve as the junior varsity head coach, varsity assistant coach and head of player development. Here, he was able to showcase his ability as new coach. During his time at Weston Ranch, the Cougars were VOL League champions, Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championships and qualified for “open division” finishing the season 30-2. In addition, he was an integral part in developing three first team VOL players, one second team VOL player, and the Front Row Prep player of the year. 
 
Next, Hunt accepted the Associate Head Coach position at Lincoln High School located in Stockton, California. There he finished with a record of 59-11 helping to lead them to a Co-Championship of the TCAL League. During his time at Lincoln, Hunt coached five first team TCAL players, two second team TCAL players, and one co-player of the year in the TCAL.  Making the playoffs in each of his full seasons there. In his final season, Lincoln made history by reaching the second round of the CIF- State Playoffs. 
 
After, Hunt accepted the Head Assistant Coach position at College of San Mateo for the 2022-2023 season. There he would finish 14-16 helping lead the Bulldogs to their first playoff win in school history. Hunt coached one Coast-North first team all-conference player, two Coast-North all-freshman team players, and one Coast-North honorable mention player. 
 
Hunt has a bachelor’s degree in Communications from California State University, Stanislaus in 2014. He is currently receiving his master’s in trauma in educational communities from Eastern Oregon University.
