Chavez, Moore join Idaho Basketball Staff

Idaho men’s basketball head coach Alex Pribble announced that Luke Chavez and Mark Moore will join the Idaho men’s basketball coaching staff as graduate assistants for the 2024-25 season.

Chavez and Pribble cross paths for a second time in their college basketball careers, as Chavez played under Coach Pribble at Saint Martin’s for two seasons in 2017-2019. Quickly Chavez turned into one of the top players in the GNAC, earning NABC First Team West Region, NCAA West Region All-Tournament Team and GNAC Unanimous First Team All-Conference following his senior season in 2019. He helped lead the Saints to a school record 26 wins, the program’s first Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular-season championship and a berth to the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Tournament.

“Luke and I go way back,” Pribble said. “Not only was he a huge part of our success at Saint Martin’s, but we grew up in the same community. He approaches life and the game of basketball with a passion that is truly contagious. He makes people around him better and we are all really lucky to have him in Moscow.”

Prior to Saint Martin’s, the Woodacre, California native played two seasons for South Puget Sound Community College. He led the Clippers to a first-place finish in the West Region and took home MVP honors after averaging 15.4 points per game.

Following his collegiate career, Chavez competed professionally for two seasons in Panama from 2021-2023. In his final season for the Centinelas, he averaged 18.8 points per game, 7.5 rebounds, and 6.6 assists.

Chavez graduated with a bachelor’s degree in educational studies at Saint Martin’s University in 2019.

Moore comes to the Palouse after competing for four seasons with the Webster Men’s Basketball program from 2020 to 2024. He was an Academic All-Conference honoree twice and was selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team. Moore was a two-sport student-athlete at Webster, playing varsity soccer for three seasons.

“Mark brings an incredible work ethic and commitment to this program,” Pribble stated. “He’s extremely smart, dependable, and has already earned a lot of respect from the players and other coaches. We are grateful to have Mark here, he adds tremendous value to this program and community.”

Outside of collegiate competition, the Hillsboro, Missouri native served as a men’s basketball operations intern for one summer at Southeast Missouri State University and spent the 2023-24 season as a varsity assistant coach at his former high school. He is also the founder and head trainer of Moore Buckets, a startup basketball training outlet for all age groups.

Moore received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in sports communication from Webster University in 2024. He is joined by his wife, Reese.
