Chris Beard Inks New 6-year Deal at Texas Tech

Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt and men’s basketball head coach Chris Beard have agreed on a new six-year contract announced Monday.

The $19,050,000 contract over six years locks Beard up as head coach of the Red Raiders through the 2023-24 season.

“Coach Beard continues to elevate Texas Tech basketball to a record level of success,” Hocutt said. “Under his leadership, our program is going to continue to elevate to an elite level. I am extremely proud of the direction of his program and know that Red Raider Nation joins me in our level of excitement for the future.”

The Red Raiders recently completed a 23-8 regular season, the highest regular season win total for the program since the 1995-96 season. Texas Tech also earned the program’s highest Big 12 regular season finish and the No. 2 seed at this week’s Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships.

The Red Raiders have been ranked as a consensus Top 15 program for the last nine weeks. The Red Raiders have spent six of those weeks inside the nation’s Top 10 highlighted by a No. 6 ranking on Feb. 19 which was the highest ranking in program history.

Texas Tech been on the nation’s biggest stage and played host to ESPN’s College GameDay for the first time in program history on Feb. 24.

The Red Raiders have already collected a program single season mark and is tied for the top spot in the nation with six wins over Top 25 opponents this season. The Red Raiders also have posted a 7-2 mark at home against Top 25 opponents under Beard and have sold out five games at the United Supermarkets Arena this season.
