The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball program has announced Chris Thompson as its new assistant coach for the 2016-17 season.
Thompson comes from Stevens after a season on the staff of fellow Empire 8 institution Elmira College.
“I am happy to welcome Chris to the program, he’s a high character, high energy type of coach that will help our student-athletes immediately,” head coach Bobby Hurley said. ” Chris’ experiences and knowledge will have a great impact on our program, and I look forward to working alongside him.”
Thompson was involved with all aspects of the program at Elmira including recruiting, game preparation and administrative duties, serving as a crucial part of the Soaring Eagles staff. The 2011 grad directed the team’s film exchange program, and served a major role with in-game adjustments.
Prior to that stint, Thompson served as an assistant on the staff at St. John Fisher for two season where he helped lead the Cardinals to a 25-win campaign in 2014-15 that included an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. Thompson has also coached for Clayton A. Bouton High School, and at SUNY Plattsburgh as a student assistant while completing his undergraduate degree.
