Dan Kane has been named the lead assistant men’s basketball coach at Connecticut College. Kane has a proven track record on the hardwood as a student-athlete, coach and leader. Kane played his first year collegiately at Husson University in Bangor, Maine, contributing to an Eagle squad that won the North Atlantic Conference Championship. He then transferred to the University of Maine at Farmington, where he had an immediate impact as the sixth man for a Beaver squad that made history by capturing the program’s inaugural conference championship en route to an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Kane was a starter, leader and floor general in his final two years of action in the collegiate ranks. During his senior campaign, Kane dished out 5.6 assists per game to rank 17th in the nation was 27th in the country with a 2.29 assist per turnover ratio. At the conclusion of his playing career, Kane was honored with the Description of Beaver Pride Award. This accolade is given annually to a male and female UMF student-athlete who embodies sportsmanship, school spirit, the drive for excellence, and most importantly beaver pride.
Kane joined the Beaver coaching staff after graduating and has assisted in all phases of the program. He helped lead UMF to a school record 21 wins in 2012-13 and a Conference Championship appearance in 2014. Kane has served as the Beavers’ recruiting coordinator since joining the coaching staff. He was elevated to Associate Head Coach at UMF in 2015.
Kane received his Associate’s Degree from Husson in 2009. At UMF, Kane earned his Bachelor of Science with honors in Community Health Education/School Health, while also carrying a minor in Coaching. Kane also holds a Master’s in Education from the University of Maine at Orono, where he graduated with honors in Exercise Science in 2014.
