CSUN Basketball Staff Update

CSUN head men’s basketball coach Andy Newman has announced his coaching staff for the 2023-24 season.

Jordan Jamestown, Scott Cutley and CJ Killin each join the Matadors as assistant coaches while Casey Norris will serve as director of basketball operations.

Jamestown brings a decade of experience in the collegiate ranks to CSUN. He spent the past three years as an assistant coach on Newman’s staff at Cal State San Bernardino. With Jamestown on the sidelines, the Yotes posted a 55-8 record in two seasons of competition and advanced to the Division II NCAA Final Four in 2023.

“I’m really excited we were able to bring Jordan over with us from Cal State San Bernardino,” said Newman. “Jordan has been with me for over three years and has demonstrated to be one of the best recruiters in the business. Along with recruiting, Jordan’s ability to develop players on and off the court will make him a great asset to our program here at CSUN.”

Prior to CSUSB, Jamestown was an assistant coach at Western Oregon from 2017-19, where he helped the Wolves make two Division II NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by a Sweet 16 trip in 2018. The Wolves also held a No. 3 ranking in the nation in 2017-18 and won both the GNAC regular season and conference tournament titles. Jamestown would serve as an interim head coach following the 2018-19 season.

In his coaching career, Jamestown was the associate head coach at Seminole State College in Oklahoma from 2016-17, while he spent three seasons on staff at Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado (2012-15).

Jamestown played collegiately for two seasons at Eastern Arizona, earning All-Region honors two seasons before playing two years at NAIA William Jewel College. Leading his team in assists, Jamestown collected second team all-conference accolades as a junior while he helped lead the team to the NAIA Sweet 16 after defeating No. 1-ranked Rogers State.

Cutley joins CSUN after spending this past season on Newman’s coaching staff at Cal State San Bernardino. With Cutley on the sidelines, the Yotes had an historic year, posting a program-record 31 victories, breaking the school record for points and appearing in the NCAA Final Four for the first time in 16 seasons.

“Scott is going to be awesome for the Matador Men’s Basketball program in a lot of ways,” said Newman. “A former Big West MVP in 2008 and graduate of Cal State Fullerton, Scott is a great role model for our student-athletes both on court and in the classroom. His ability to recruit local talent will be crucial in moving this program forward.”

Prior to CSUSB, Cutley spent the 2021-22 season as a graduate assistant at Cal State Fullerton. The Titans had a stellar season with Cutley on the bench, collecting 21 victories while winning the 2022 Big West Championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to his coaching career, Cutley played professionally for 13 seasons for teams throughout South America. Cutley won championships in Argentina and Paraguay while he was named league MVP in Chile and reached the finals in Columbia.

In his collegiate career, Cutley was a two-year standout at Cal State Fullerton from 2006-08 after transferring from Kent State. He averaged over 15 points and eight rebounds for the Titans and was named two-time Big West First Team selection. Cutley was named Big West Player of the Year and AP All-America Honorable Mention after helping the Titans win the regular season and conference tournament titles in 2008.

Killin comes to Northridge after a successful three-year stint as associate head coach at Salt Lake Community College. In three seasons, SLCC posted an impressive 84-12 record, highlighted by a 35-2 season and a National Championship appearance in 2021-22. Killin oversaw a Bruin offense that finished first in scoring in the NJCAA at 106.6 points per game two seasons ago.

“CJ comes to us from Salt Lake Community College where he established himself as one of the top recruiters in the nation,” said Newman. “He helped lead that program to unprecedented successes including a national championship appearance in 2021-22. He will be intracule in bringing in talented student-athletes that will help CSUN compete for a Big West Championship.”

Killin previously spent the 2019-20 season at Portland State where he oversaw the team’s offensive rebounding efforts, which finished fourth-best in the nation. Prior to PSU, he was an assistant coach at Idaho State in 2018-19. He also served as an assistant at Odessa College (TX) where he helped the Wranglers win an outright league championship.

Killin spent two seasons as well at New Mexico Junior College, a season at NAIA Peru State College where he helped the program to their most wins in over a decade, and another season at Central Community College, coaching that program to the NJCAA D2 Final Four.

A native Nebraskan, Killin began his coaching career at his alma mater Nebraska-Kearney in 2012-13 as a volunteer assistant coach.

Norris joins the Matadors from Concordia University Irvine where he served as assistant coach for the past three seasons. He also spent three successful seasons as an assistant at Citrus College from 2017-20, playing a key role in the team’s 72-22 overall record. With Norris, Citrus appeared in the 2019 CCCAA Final Four, won three consecutive conference championships and earned three-straight CCCAA tournament berths.

“We are very fortunate to be adding Casey Norris to our staff today,” said Newman. “He is an incredible competitor, and his tireless work-ethic is one that will benefit the Matadors greatly. Casey is proficient in a lot of different areas, and he’ll add to our program’s success in many ways.”

Prior to his coaching career, Norris played two seasons at Ohlone College, one season at Loyola Marymount and his final collegiate season at California Baptist. With the CBU, Norris helped lead the program to a 26-5 record and a berth into the NCAA Division II Tournament.
