I can confirm that Newberry College will name Wingate associate head coach Marcus Kirkland as their new head coach. He will replace Jason Taylor, who is headed to Morehead State as an assistant.

Kirkland has been on the staff at South Atlantic Conference foe Wingate for the past 13-seasons, serving his first five as an assistant before assuming the associate head coach title back in 2016. Kirkland has also served as the Director of Diversity and Inclusion at the college since 2020.

This past season, Wingate went 22-9 (16-4 SAC) and advanced to the NCAA D2 tournament.
