D2 DIRT: Pietrack resigns as Head Basketball Coach at Fort Lewis College

I’ve teased this one a few times on X since 4/23 – can finally roll with it…

After back-to-back 29 win seasons at D2 Fort Lewis College, head basketball coach Bob Pietrack has resigned. Obviously this has been making the rounds for the past week, but was confirmed in a late night post by Pietrack:

Pietrack was named as the 2024 Red Auerbach Coach of the Year by the Jewish Coaches Association after guiding the Skyhawks to its second consecutive 29-4 overall record, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Championship, and back-to-back appearances in the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.

In his ten seasons at FLC, Pietrack has gone 189-75 (.716) and 131-60 (.686) in RMAC league play – both currently stand as the highest winning percentages in program history. The veteran coach had served as an assistant with the program for 11-seasons before being elevated to head coach in 2015.

This is one of the best D2 jobs in the country – in addition to being 58-8 over the past two seasons, they were 3rd in overall home attendance nationally last season at 32,178. I would image there will be a ton of guys chasing this one. More on the upcoming search as I hear it.
