Edinboro Athletics announced the hiring of Joshua Gross as the 13th head coach of the Fighting Scot men’s basketball program.
“I am excited to welcome Coach Gross and his family to Edinboro,” said Director of Athletics Dr. Katherine Robbins. “Coach Gross brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience while demonstrating exceptional character and passion for student athlete development. We know he will continue to elevate the men’s basketball program and push to win championships.”
Gross brings extensive experience across NCAA Division I, II, and III serving most recently as the assistant coach at North Carolina Greensboro.
“I’m extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead Edinboro Men’s Basketball,” said Gross “Thank you to Dr. Robbins and the entire search committee for believing in me and my vision for the program. I’m most excited about the phenomenal young men that I get to coach. They’re very talented basketball players and even better people.”
In his time at UNC Greensboro, the Spartans were 35-31including a 20-12 mark in 2024-25. The Spartans posted the best defensive field goal percentage in the Southern Conference and ranked 17th in the nation. UNC Greensboro had the 27th best scoring defense in the country.
Prior to UNC Greensboro, Gross spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Elon University. While with the Phoenix, he recruited the Coastal Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year in both 2023 and 2024. He was named the CAA Top Assistant Coach.
Gross was the head coach of Division III Johnson & Wales University. He led the Wildcats to a 17-12 record in the 2021-22 season and reaching the USCAA National Championship game. He placed three players on the USCAA All-Academic Team and had one USCAA All-American.
Before his time at Johnson and Wales, he served as an assistant at Belmont Abbey where he helped the Crusaders win the Conference Carolina Championship and earn the top seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
“To the Edinboro students & community, we’re going to work relentlessly to consistently win at a high level,” said Gross. “We are going to defend with physicality, toughness and elite communication. Offensively, we’re going to play fast and exciting with precise execution. Our fans will enjoy watching us play on both sides of the ball!”
Gross entered coaching after a decorated playing career. He played collegiately at UNC Greensboro from 2001-05, where he ranks 20th on the school’s all-time rebounding list with 431. He also led the Spartans in field goal percentage in 2002-03 (.520). He furthered his playing career after graduation by participating in the NBA’s D-League. He played for several D-League teams including Austin, Albuquerque, Florida, and Los Angeles. He also played professional basketball internationally in both England and Japan.
