D3 DIRT: Allegheny opens; New Head Coach to be named quickly

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I can confirm through multiple sources that Bob Simmons has resigned as the head men’s basketball coach at D3 Allegheny College, and has accepted a position at IMG Academy.

Simmons had spent the past eight seasons as the Gators head coach. This past season was his best at Allegheny, leading his team to a 20-10 (15-5 PAC) record. Simmons has also served as the head coach at Delaware Valley (2000-02), and Marywood (2013-15), and also worked as a D1 assistant at both Ball State and Lehigh.

I have also heard that assistant coach Josh Clemens will be elevated to head coach to replace Simmons. Clemens joined the Allegheny staff this past July after spending the past four seasons as the head coach at his alma mater Paul Smith’s College.

An official announcement is expected sometime this week.
