D3 DIRT: Bridgewater State’s Farroba to retire

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I can confirm through multiple sources that long-time Bridgewater State University head coach Joe Farroba will retire and be replaced by assistant coach Matt McLaughlin.

Farroba has been the head coach at BSU for the past 29-seasons and has compiled a 402-365 (.524) record. During his tenure, the Bears reached postseason play 11 times, including D3 tourney appearances in 1999, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014 and 2018. The 2009 squad advanced the Sweet 16. Farroba has also captured four MASCAC Coach of the Year Awards.

McLaughlin, who played for Farroba at BSU, joined the men’s basketball staff prior to the 2021-22 season. Before that, he served as an assistant with the Bears women’s program for seven years. He was part of the 2009 squad that advanced to the Sweet 16, and was also named as the MASCAC Tournament MVP in 2010.

An official announcement is expected as early as tomorrow.
