I have heard from multiple sources that Yale associate head coach Justin Simon will be named as the new head basketball coach at D3 Carnegie Melon University.
The Yale alum who has won an Ivy League men’s basketball championship as both a player and a coach, joined James Jones’ coaching staff as an assistant in 2011. Simon was promoted to associate head coach in July of 2023.
During his tenure on the Yale staff, the Bulldogs have earned eight postseason appearances, including notching the first NCAA Tournament victory in school history in 2016, and won four Ivy League Tournament titles.
Simon would replace Tony Wingen, who announced his retirement at CMU after 35 seasons at the helm of the Tartan program.
More on this move once it becomes official.
