D3 DIRT: North Central opens; Figueroa set to take D1 associate head coach job

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I can confirm that head coach Anthony Figueroa is departing D3 North Central College, and will become the associate head coach at D1 Northwestern State.

Last season was Figueroa’s first at North Central after a great run at NJCAA D2 Parkland College. In his only year at NCC, Figueroa went 14-12 (8-8). Before that, he put together a 221-79 in ten seasons at Parkland, which included two Elite Eight appearances.

Figueroa had previously served as an assistant to new Northwestern State head coach Rick Cabrera at Lackawanna College from 2004-08. While there, the pair put together a 100-29 record, which included three conference championships, two conference tournament titles.

Also, it sounds like current North Central assistant coach Vince Kmiec will be promoted to replace Figueroa. Kmiec is a 2014 NCC alum who has been on the Cardinals staff since 2015. This could be done as early as tomorrow.

More on all of these moves when they become official.
