D3 DIRT: Rhode Island College set to hire former D1 assistant as new Head Coach

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I have heard from multiple sources that D3 Rhode Island College intends to name Sam Ferry as their new men’s basketball head coach. Ferry had spent the past four seasons as an assistant on Brett Nelson’s staff at Holy Cross, and was not retained after Nelson was dismissed earlier this spring.

Before joining the staff at Holy Cross, Ferry served one year stints as an assistant at both Cleveland State and Pitt. He also spent six seasons on King Rice’s staff at Monmouth, starting as the DBO before being elevated to assistant coach in 2013. In 2016, Ferry was named to the Under Armour 30-under-30 Team as part of the NABC’s Guardians of the Game Awards.

Ferry will replace Tom Glynn, who became the head coach at Rivier University back on February 28th.

An official announcement from RIC is expected shortly.
