D3 DIRT: Springfield College set to name new Head Basketball Coach

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I have heard from multiple sources that Springfield College intends to hire Mike McClendon as their new head men’s basketball coach. McClendon spent last season as the head coach at Middlesex Community College (NJ) where he led his team to a 15-12 (11-10) record.

Prior to his time at MCC, McClendon served as an assistant and head JV coach at D3 College of Mount Saint Vincent (NY). He has also spent time as an assistant at D2 Felician College (NJ) and Raritan Valley Community College (NJ).

The finalists here included McClendon, and two D3 head coaches from Massachusetts. Springfield alum Jim Mack was also in the final group, but withdrew after being promoted to associate head coach at LIU earlier this week.

McClendon would replace long-time head coach Charlie Brock, who retired earlier this spring after spending the last 24-seasons at his alma mater.

An official announcement is expected shortly.
