D3 NEWS: Carleton adds Erickson as Assistant Basketball Coach

Carleton Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ryan Kershaw announced the addition of Grant Erickson to the Knights coaching staff for the 2025-26 season.

“We are thrilled to add Grant to our program for the upcoming season,” said Kershaw.  “I’ve known Grant dating back to his days as a high school player at Lakeville North and followed his career while he was at UW-River Falls. In watching Grant’s work with the Lakeville North program closely over the past few years, it quickly became evident that Grant is an excellent young coach who will be an outstanding addition to Carleton and our men’s basketball program.”

Erickson joins the staff after spending the past eight years as an assistant at his alma mater, Lakeville North.  He spent time as the sophomore head coach and was the varsity offensive coordinator for the past three years.  During his tenure, the Panthers made three state tournament and five section championship appearances, which included a pair of third place finishes and one runner up.  Erickson helped Lakeville North to an overall record of 173-56 with three conference championships.

In addition, Erickson has experience coaching and training at Wear Out the Net Basketball Academy in Lakeville.  Beginning after his high school graduation in 2013, he has been with the program for 13 years and currently serves as manager and AAU coordinator.

Collegiately, Erickson was a four-year starter at point guard while attending the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.  He started 93 of 98 career games played, averaging 7.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, which included a 3.3:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.  The Falcons saw steady improvement throughout Erickson’s playing career, culminating in the second-most wins in program history during his senior season (25), a year in which the Falcons won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) regular season and playoff title before advancing to the second round of the Division III NCAA Tournament.

“I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to be an assistant men’s basketball coach for the Carleton Knights,” Erickson described.  “I love the game of basketball and coaching. I can only hope to enhance this exceptional program with my knowledge, energy and passion for the game. I am excited to get started!”
