D3 NEWS: Ortman named Assistant Basketball Coach at The College of New Jersey

TCNJ men’s basketball coach Matt Goldsmith has announced the hiring of Oliver Ortman to his staff for the 2023-24 campaign.

Ortman spent the prior two seasons on staff at Drew University, including an 18-9 record and a run to the Landmark Conference championship game in 2022.

“We are extremely excited to bring Oliver into our men’s basketball program,” Goldsmith said. “He brings to our staff a fantastic work ethic, college experience, and deep ties to New Jersey basketball. His positive attitude and get-it-done mentality will be a major asset to our program and athletic department as a whole. His future is bright!”

Ortman enjoyed an outstanding playing career as a guard at FDU-Florham, where he earned second-team All-MAC recognition as a senior. A three-year captain and three-year team MVP, he is 14th on the program’s all-time scoring chart with 1,181 points and holds school records for 3-pointers in a career (201) and season (76).

Ortman earned a spot on the Dean’s List five times and was a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree. He earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in sports administration from FDU.

While at FDU, Ortman also served as a student ambassador for the Team IMPACT program, mentoring a child with a chronic physical condition. In addition, he has served as a coach and camp counselor at the New Jersey Basketball Academy since 2016.

Ortman worked with NJ Panthers AAU as a coach during the 2023 spring and summer season.
