D3 NEWS: Tonsil chosen as new Head Basketball Coach at Dominican University

Dominican University athletics has named Troy Tonsil as the new Head Men’s Basketball Coach effective immediately.

Tonsil has been an assistant coach since 2012 under long-time head coach Mark White. He is also a former player and a Dominican alum. Tonsil has excelled in any role the department has put him in including serving as the current Coordinator of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. He has also helped the program with other sports such as women’s basketball and tennis.

“I am very excited I have been given this opportunity to serve as the Head Coach for our men’s basketball program here at Dominican University,” Tonsil said. “As a former student-athlete of the men’s basketball program, it is an absolute honor, joy, and privilege to lead the program and Alma Mater in the present and into the future. I have been fortunate enough to work with several great head coaches, specifically Mark White, over the last 10 years. The knowledge and tutelage I’ve gained during that time has prepared me, tremendously, for this role. I know there is a lot of work to be done in year one. Having said that, I have the support and trust of the Dominican administration and the department of athletics to move the men’s basketball program forward and to continuously serve our student-athletes to the best of my abilities.”

The department is thrilled to give the reigns to Tonsil and everyone has the confidence he will make the program a contender again.
