Georgia Southwestern to Hire Cameron’s O’Connor
Teased this one on X last night – D2 Georgia Southwestern is done. I can now confirm that GSW will hire current D2 Cameron University head coach Kevin O’Connor to replace Aaron Coombs who resigned earlier this month. O’Connor took over at Cameron in 2022 after a successful stint as the head coach at Murray State College, where he captured two NJCAA Region II Coach of the Year awards. This move should be officially announced shortly.
Rocky Mountain College Targeting Neville
I have heard that NAIA Rocky Mountain College will hire Langston’s Danny Neville as their new Head Coach. Neville joined the Langston staff as the associate head coach last summer after spending the previous eight seasons as the head coach at the University of Jamestown. He went 178-84 during his time with the Jimmies, and was part of a Langston staff that went 26-8 (17-7) this past season.
Jenkins in the Mix at Murray State; Mullins retained
It sounds like NJCAA D1 Frank Phillips College head coach Hunter Jenkins is in the mix to join Ryan Miller’s new staff at Murray State. Last season was Jenkins first at FPC following a stint as the head coach at Clarendon College (TX). He has previously served as a D1 assistant at Buffalo. Also, Miller will retain current assistant Brendan Mullins. Last season was his first at Murray State after serving as an assistant for his brother Bryan at SIU from 2019-24. He has also been an assistant at Wright State and Green Bay. Mullins is currently listed on the the 2015-26 roster – the other assistants from last season have been removed.
Settembre Leading for Seward County CC Job
Word on the street is that Tarleton State assistant Zach Settembre is the leader to become the next head coach at NJCAA D1 Seward County CC (KS). Settembre is in his second stretch at TSU and was an assistant at New Mexico State between stints. He has also served as the head coach at Tallahassee CC and as an assistant at Coastal Carolina. More on this one as I hear it.
Colorado State Staff Update
According to Jon Rothstein report, new Colorado State head coach Ali Farokhmanesh will retain current assistants Tim Shelton and Ken DeWeese. He will also add former Air Force head coach Dave Pilipovich to his staff. Pilipovich had been on Richard Pitino’s staff since 2022.
Lincoln Memorial Coaching Search Heats Up
In the Daily Dirt on 3/19, I mentioned Chipola’s Donnie Tyndall as a name to watch in the search at D2 Lincoln Memorial. I have also heard Tennessee assistant Bryan Lentz’ name mentioned here, as well as at least three current D2 head coaches. Working on a timeline here as to when interviews may start.
Middlebury Begins Coaching Interviews
D3 Middlebury College has started to schedule their first round interviews. Sounds like they will start next week. Working on a list here as we speak.
