Daily Dirt – 3/29/19

A bunch of things to wrap up a busy week…

  • An early name at Buffalo is Tennessee associate head coach Rob Lanier. The former head coach at Siena (2001-05) is a Buffalo native who has also been an assistant at Texas, Florida, and Virginia. Will have more names soon.
  • I can confirm that Clemson graduate assistant Terrence Oglesby will become an assistant coach at DII Carson-Newman University (TN). After wrapping up his career at Clemson in 2009, he played overseas until 2017.
  • Phone interviews are getting underway at DII Assumption College (MA). I have heard that there are 8 coaches in this round, including former Maine head coach Bob Walsh, two DII assistants, and two DIII head coaches (who both finished successful first-seasons at their respective schools). Also, at least one DI assistant coach on the list as well.
  • Staying in Worcester, MA….DIII Clark University also has a search going on as well. It sounds like they are at the on-campus round, with visits next week. I have heard the final four includes two assistants from Clark’s league (NEWMAC), and two DI assistants.
  • Phone interviews start Monday at NJCAA DI Richard Bland College (VA). I have heard Lafayette assistant Jarren Dyson is involved here as well as Christopher Newport assistant Dominic Parker (was on staff when RBC won the 2015 NJCAA DII National Championship). Sounds like a current part-time DIII head coach is in the mix as well. The group could be as many as 8.
  • Interviews at DIII Hampden-Sydeny College (VA) have wrapped up. Sounds like the job has been offered to Huntingdon College (AL) head coach Caleb Kimbrough who is currently mulling the offer.
  • Skype interviews are finished at DII Coker College (SC). It sounds like on-campus interviews are next. I have heard that they have been using ASC as a search firm to help with this one.
  • The interim tag has been removed from Jamestown CC head coach Xavier Churnac. He took over in December when George Sisson stepped away to become the AD at the school.
