Last day of March – it’s been crazy! A few quick hitters as we gear up for April…
The most interesting name at Austin Peay is Duke associate head coach Nate James. Also hearing Nicholls State head coach Austin Claunch mentioned here. Seems like this one is moving quickly.
Former Tulane and The Citadel head coach Ed Conroy is in the mix at Utah State. Other names floating around are BYU assistant Chris Burgess, and former Nebraska head coach Tim Miles. Sounds like this one will be wrapped up sometime next week.
Earlier in the week, I mentioned Earl Boykins, Charles Thomas, Stan Heath, and Howard Eisley at Eastern Michigan (DAILY DIRT – 3/29). It sounds like Michigan State assistant Dwayne Stephens may be involved here as well. I can confirm that Zoom interviews are underway (yesterday, today, and tomorrow), and it sounds like the final two will visit campus after that.
Sounds like Mike Woodson will retain current Hoosiers assistant Kenya Hunter. Unsure on the status of Mike Roberts (he’s an IU alum, which is big with Woodson). Assistant coach Tom Ostrom is already gone.
Two names rising to the top at Hofstra are Bryant head coach Jared Grasso, and current assistant (and Hofstra great) Speedy Claxton. Acting head coach Mike Farrelly in still the mix as well. Working on other names, but not sure if there are any.
Early names to keep an eye on at D3 Bowdoin College are Nichols head coach Brandon Linton (former assistant at Army and Bowdoin), and RPI head coach Mark Gilbride (Bowdoin alum + son of Tim Gilbride who just retired at Bowdoin). Also, expect 500 D1 assistant coaches at “academic” schools to apply.
Chris Hackett, the head coach at NJCAA D1 Frank Phillips College will assume the role of Athletic Director in addition to his coaching duties. He has been the head coach at FPC since 2011.
