Daily Dirt – 3/24/16

A few things to start the day…

  • On Monday, I mentioned some candidates to replace Eric Reveno at Portland.  I have now also heard Columbia head coach Kyle Smith’s name mentioned here.  His team is currently 23-10 and still playing in the CIT.  He knows the WCC – he spent nine seasons at St. Mary’s before taking over at Columbia.  He has also worked at Air Force and San Diego.
  • Latest name at Drexel…I have heard that St. Joseph’s assistant Geoff Arnold is now in the mix.  He has been on Phil Martelli’s staff for the past eight years, and before that, he spent seven seasons as the associate head coach at Drexel.  He played at St. Joe’s with former Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint.
  • Another name to keep an eye on at Western Kentucky is Texas A&M assistant coach Rick Stansbury.  The long-time head coach at Mississippi State (293-166 – 14-seasons), has been on Billy Kennedy’s staff for the past two seasons.  He is a Kentucky native.
