Daily Dirt – 3/8/16

Busy day yesterday at the DI level.  Obviously more changes coming soon!  Here are some things that I’ve heard from the small colleges…

  • I have heard that the leader for the vacant NAIA Corban University (OR) job is Cal Baptist assistant coach Josh Dusaj.  He just wrapped up his third season at CBU, and has also been an assistant at Cal State San Marcos and Citrus College.  Corban is looking to replace Steve Masten who resigned back in February.  I have heard that there could be an announcement here shortly.
  • Quick follow-up…Back on 2/25, I reported that NCAA DII Millersville University (PA) head coach Fred Thompson was not retained.  The school has still not made the official announcement, but Thompson’s name has now been removed from the athletic department’s staff directory.  Seems to confirm our “dirt”…
  • Another follow-up…On March 4th,  I reported that NCAA DII Lincoln University (PA) head coach John Hill was out as the head coach of the Lions.  As with Millersville, there has not been an official statement from the school, but Hill’s supporters have started a petition to reinstate Hill as the basketball coach.  While the petition has collected 1,040 signatures so far, I’m pretty sure that it’s not going to matter- nice to know you’re loved though…
  • I have heard through great sources that phone interviews are underway at NCAA DIII Newbury College.  The Nighthawks are in the process of replacing former head coach Jelani Townsell who resigned back on February 22nd.  The names I’ve heard have been mostly New England DIII assistant coaches.  More on this one when the on-campus interviews start.
  • I’m getting smoke signals from multiple sources on an opening in the DII Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).  More on this one as soon as I can confirm…
  • More soon on the searches at Pacific, Santa Clara, UMBC, and Drexel…
