DAILY DIRT – 4/1/24

April 1st, and we’ve already had 55 D1 changes. Over the weekend on X, I set the O/U on 9.5 more (and I’m leaning over). I also expect the D2’s and D3’s to start getting busy this month. Here are a few things that I’ve heard to kick off the week…

New Central Arkansas head coach John Shulman has brought Max Shulman and Ezra Pinzur with him from D2 Alabama Huntsville. Max (John’s son) joined the UAH staff this past season following his playing career with the Chargers (he’s UAH’s all-time leader in 3’s made). Pinzur has been with Shulman at UAH for the past three seasons and also worked as a GA at Tennessee Tech.

Zooms have started at Cornell. A bunch of guys have had “initial conversations”, but most believe that current interim head coach Jon Jaques will get the job. Jacques is a Cornell alum who has been on the staff for the past 12 seasons. I can confirm that Collegiate Sports Associates (CSA) is running this one.

Ben Lee will join Gerry McNamara’s new staff at Siena. Lee spent the past few years working for former Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins at Washington – he served as a GA, DBO, and ended his tenure with the Huskies as an assistant coach. He is a NY native who played collegiately at Union College (NY).

I have heard that Furman assistant Jake DeLaney is in the mix to return to Gardner-Webb to take a spot on Jeremy Luther’s new staff. DeLaney has had two stints at GWU – 2015-17 as the video coordinator/GA, and spent 2019-23 as an assistant before joining the Furman staff prior to this past season.

Word on the street is that Presbyterian assistant Trey Johnson will join the staff at his alma mater Charleston Southern. Last season was Johnson’s first as an assistant at Presbyterian after serving as an assistant at D2 Lenoir-Rhyne.

The search to replace Paul Corsaro at D2 UIndy is moving quickly. Some names that I’ve heard here include current associate head coach Mike Burris, Purdue Ft. Wayne assistant Ryan Simms (a UIndy alum), and NAIA Marian University (Indianapolis) head coach Scott Heady. Sounds like this one could be wrapped up very shortly.

In the DAILY DIRT back on 3/27, I mentioned Montevallo (AL) head coach Anthony Komara as the leader for D2 Alabama Huntsville. Adding two more names to the list: Houston Director of Operations & Basketball Strategy Bobby Champagne (former head coach at North Alabama), and D2 Trevecca Nazarene head coach Kevin Carroll.

I have heard that the search at D2 Lynn University (FL) will wrap up this week with an announcement forthcoming. Stay tuned…
