Daily Dirt – 4/10/18

Some things that I’ve heard…

  • I can confirm that Tallahassee CC (FL) assistant Sam Waniewski will join the staff at Louisiana Monroe as an assistant coach. Waniewski, a former DBO at Furman, has also been an assistant at Midland College (TX) and Vincennes University (IN).

  • Southwest Mississippi CC head coach Thomas Gray is rumored to be in the mix for the Director of Basketball Operations spot at Ole Miss. Gray has spent the past four seasons at Southwest and also had a stint as an assistant at Tennessee Martin. Sounds like an announcement here will be made shortly.

  • It sounds like Clark Atlanta assistant coach Alfred Jordan will be joining Darrell Walker at Little Rock in some capacity. Jordan is a CAU alum who had been on Walker’s staff for the past two seasons. No word on the rest of the staff yet.

  • Speaking of Clark Atlanta…I have heard that Reinhardt University (GA) assistant coach Jay Smith has interviewed for Walker’s old position. He is the former head coach at Fisk University (TN) and Michigan Dearborn. More names as I hear them.

  • Staying at the DII level…Young Harris College (GA) is down to the final three. That group includes former North Alabama head coach Bobby Champagne, a current DII head coach, and a current DIII head coach. Sounds like an announcement is coming soon.

  • DIII Gettysburg College has made their choice. The new coach (a current DIII guy) is telling his team the news shortly. Once that’s done, I’ll roll with it…

  • The HoopDirt.com 2017-18 Junior College Coach of the Year presented by Just Play Solutions was announced yesterday. You can read about this year’s winner HERE. The NAIA selection will be released later today followed by DIII on Wednesday, DII on Thursday, and we’ll cap off the week with the DI recipient on Friday.
